2/17/2022 0 Comments Investing Practice: The BeginningToday I’m going to talk about stepping outside your comfort zone and starting to invest.
How do you start investing when your schedule is already so full. Deciding to dedicate time to investing might feel like another thing on your to do list. A daunting, scary, overwhelming item as well. Beginning your investing practice is a habit change and habitat changes don’t happen overnight. When you’re starting out with something new, getting clear on what your goal is will help you to keep on when the learning gets hard. Google the definition of investing (like I did) so you can remove some of the scariness of the concept. Then spend some time thinking about what your goal is with investing, aka. when you have income coming in because you made a decision with money what would you like to do. Dream big. Think outside of the box.
When you start something new you sometimes feel like an imposture, like you shouldn’t be there. I’ve felt this feeling many times in my life and felt it again when I started reading and talking about investing. I joke that talking about investing makes me feel like I’m really adulting. But you know what the cool thing is, the more you learn a new skill and practice it, the less of an imposture you feel like. I value life long learning and find it fascinating that I can pick up a book, hop on the internet, ask a friend and learn something. Learning to invest is a learned skill. It takes time and practice. You were programmed to think about money in a certain way, so being aware of that will help you in the beginning. Read more about that here. Get clear on why you want to invest. And if your why is as simple as, I’m curious to learn more about how to achieve my investing goal, that’s perfectly okay. Financial wellness doesn’t stay static. As you learn more about the benefits of investing your goal and your why can change and evolve. So how do you start to invest? Think about your end goal if you had additional income coming in and then make a habit change so you can start learning how to achieve that goal.
