When your stress from one (or more) of these stressors starts to build up and become chronic, it can lead to a variety of issues, such as burnout, health and sleep problems to name a few. Do you keep pushing yourself at work, pretending that you have full energy levels despite your energy levels being on empty? Burnout isn’t specific to one type of job - all professions are at risk. If you have a corporate job, a small business you own, or work from home parenting your child 24/7, you can burnout from all these different types of jobs. You can burnout from doing things you don’t want to do but it can also come from doing things you enjoy doing. Do you want to know what I’ve realized about stress? That even if the stressor goes away that doesn’t mean the stress is gone. Our bodies hold onto stress until you complete your stress cycle. When I experienced burnout the first time, I avoided dealing with the stress by switching jobs. But the stress still lived in my body as I never completed the many unresolved stress cycles. And the more stress I experienced without completing each stress cycle, the more stress that kept building up. I was living in a constant state of chronic stress. Which also leads to other issues, like troubles with sleeping, digestive issues and chronic diseases. So, I learnt the hard way that you must make changes to how you approach stress to recover from and prevent burnout in the future because stress will always be a part of life.
